What is the AI Gateway Pilot?

  1. Objective: To determine the value of offering private access to cutting-edge AI APIs for the university's research, education, and professional services. This is an API access service, not a chat-based AI. It allows users to integrate AI into projects, products, and services.

  2. Duration: The initial pilot concludes in Spring 2026 with a view to rolling out the service if its of value to the university community.

  3. Security: Access is private and secure. Data/prompts are never shared with base models (OpenAI, Meta, etc.) and remain completely private to the University of Birmingham. Read our data security and privacy statement.
